Our Team
Our dedicated and experienced team is passionate about making your whale watching experience in Iceland as memorable as possible.
At Láki Tours, our captains and guides bring years of experience and extensive knowledge of whales, orcas, dolphins and the ocean. Many of our team members have been with us for years, making Láki Tours feel like a close-knit family.
Our crew is also involved in photo-ID research and ongoing work to better understand whales and other marine life in Icelandic waters. By joining our tours, you can learn more about this research and the individual animals we encounter.
Marie created an extensive photo-ID catalogue of Icelandic orcas and founded the non-profit organisation Orca Guardians Iceland. Nolwenn is currently working on a photo-ID catalogue of sperm whales that visit Icelandic waters in spring and early summer. Our former team member Judith created the first photo-ID catalogue of humpback whales seen from Hólmavík.
The founding brothers of our company are Snæfellsnes locals and have been fishing in the local waters for decades. Gísli is now the sole owner of the business. He knows this area and its wildlife intimately, having lived and worked here for decades. Gísli is the manager of the company as well as the main captain on the whale watching tours in Snæfellsnes.

Franklin captains our boats in both Ólafsvík and Hólmavík. He has worked on the water most of his life, primarily as a fisherman. He became a captain in 1998, and in 2012 he obtained an unlimited captain licence. He now works on tourist boats in both Iceland and Norway. He has worked on many boats, some little ones and some quite big ones!

Our whale spotter Marie has been working with orcas for many years. She founded Orca Guardians, an organisation dedicated to protecting orcas around Icelandic waters and keeps the catalogue of orca sightings recorded in our area. As one of our main species seen, she has more knowledge of orcas around Snæfellsnes than anyone else. Since founding Orca Guardinas Marie has helped match orcas seen in Iceland to many other places. She also helped to create the Code of Conduct for responsible whale watching in Iceland.

Marketa came to us in 2022 from the hearth of Europe, with the passion for marine life since she was a teenager. She has studied zoology at Czech University od Life Sciences Prague. In her free time she likes to crochet little whales, which you can find in our store.

Mathilde started working for Láki Tours in 2025. She has had a passion for whales since she was a little girl growing up on the Dutch coast. This passion inspired her to get a BSc degree in Coastal and Marine Management. After her studies, she worked on various cruise ships and ferries around the world for three years, spotting and talking about whales! Now she has found her way to Iceland, and here she is, always ready with a smile to help and answer any (marine / whale-related) questions. She also loves taking photos, and you can find her postcards featuring photos from whale-watching trips with Láki tours in the ticket office shop.

Often found patiently answering all your emails and booking requests is Nicky. She made her home in Iceland from New Zealand many years ago.

Originally from Italy, Francesca has always had a deep connection with the sea. This lifelong passion drew her North, where she began working on boats. Against the backdrop of the dramatic Arctic fjords, she fell completely in love with marine wildlife, developing a particular fascination with the region’s diverse birdlife and marine mammals. After gaining experience in the Norwegian whale watching industry, Francesca set out in search of a deeper relationship with nature. Her journey led her to Iceland, where the unique environment offers more intimate experience with whales — a profound connection she loves sharing with every guest on board.

Nicole takes care of our ticket office, customer service and social media at Láki Tours. Originally from Slovakia, she speaks Slovak, English and Spanish, and has spent many years living in Spain. Her interest in whales, especially orcas, began at a young age, and she was a regular whale-watching guest before joining Láki Tours. She enjoys learning more about the sea and marine life here in Iceland, while combining her marketing background with her passion for cetaceans. She also loves sharing educational content and helping guests create memorable experiences from the moment of booking to returning from the ocean.
