Snæfellsnes is a unique whale watching destination and differs from many other whale watching locations in Iceland. A variety of whale species can be seen along the Snæfellsnes coastline throughout the year, including orcas and sperm whales, which are regularly seen in this area during their season. As we are dealing with wild animals in their natural environment, we never know exactly what we might encounter on any given tour.

Not all whale species are present around Snæfellsnes throughout the year. Our whale sightings overview gives you a better idea of which species you may encounter on a whale-watching tour in Snæfellsnes and how sightings change throughout the seasons.

Please keep in mind that sightings from a specific tour may differ from the sightings published on this page. We often operate more than one tour per day, and wildlife sightings can vary between departures.

Please note that during 2020 and spring 2021, we operated a significantly reduced number of tours due to COVID-19, so less sightings data is available for these periods.
