WHALE WATCHING WESTFJORDS
28/06/2017: We ran two afternoon whale watching tours from Hólmavík today, in calm seas and with two feeding humpbacks seen on both tours. We only had to travel about 10 minutes from the harbour before we found our first whale, on each tour. Both whales we saw today were feeding not far below the surface. This meant they were taking very short dives, often less than a minute, and coming up with big, loud surfacings. We could usually hear them before we saw them as they blew so loud. Often we saw them filtering water out of their mouths as they surfaced and both whales surfaced very close to the boat as we just drifted with the engines not engaged. We keep our 100% success rate with finding humpbacks here on every tour! Judith (Tour guide)
